Music Monday: Aaaaand, I'm Old!
So, I'm a year closer to middle age today. Congratulate me! I realize 38 is far from old these days, but I have not been feeling young at all. My issues? Let's make a list!
1) I've been getting nose bleeds. My nasal passages are super sensitive to dry heat, so I have trouble every winter once we turn the heat on anyway. But now, since my sinus infection, they've been worse. Even though I use a humidifier on high every night.
2) My skin won't stop breaking out. First it was my chin, then my forehead and my neck and my chin again. Ack!
3) My knees are killing me. They creak and pop and hurt whenever I sit down or get up. I've been exercising regularly for over a month, but it's not helping.
4) For the past week or so I've been exhausted. I'm wiped out by 11 pm nightly. Is this it for me? Do I need to start eating dinner at 5? This reminds me of two years ago when I realized I couldn't stay up all night anymore without being tired for an entire week afterwards. It was a crushing blow!
I have spent a quiet day trying to ignore all the stuff that's making me feel old and useless. What's that? You want another list. I can do that!
1) I did yoga and took a walk.
2) I danced naked to Bobby Brown's Every Little Step.
3) I watched two movies.
4) I ate free birthday food for lunch and plan to get more.
5) I ate dark chocolate fudge stripe cookies and dark chocolate pretzels.
6) I opened the windows and let the cool November air fill the house while I bundled up on the couch.
I know, not exactly an exciting day. But, music makes every day more interesting. Let's enjoy some!
How do you like to spend your birthday?

Happy Friday! Party Time!
I have a good feeling about this weekend. Why? Well, I've gotten a good amount of stuff done this week, so I don't feel like I waisted my time. We have a bit of fun money to work with, and...And? My birthday is on Monday and we'll actually be able to celebrate a bit!
In three days I'll be two years away from 40, people. I'd be lying if I said the idea of that isn't fucking with my mind, but I'm trying. Trying to do better and move ahead so that 10 years from now I don't find myself dreading 50. I want to look forward to each year. Who doesn't?
Enough seriousness! Here's what I found online this week.
1) If any of you writers are doing NaNoWriMo, Galley Cat and Writer's Digest have a host of tips for you.
2) Most of us can use a self-esteem boost from time to time. Here are 50 ways to upgrade yours.
3) Want to eat better? Dr. Oz likes all these foods, and this is a list of foods that aren't as bad as we thought.
4) I can't stop talking about mustaches!
5) Last, but not least, this video-filled list of cats freaking out should send you off with a good laugh.
That's all for me folks. Have a great weekend!

Happy Friday: Birthday Time!

...
Well, looky there. My birthday is this weekend. Honestly, it's freaking me out a bit. Not to become a middle-aged stereotype, but the fact that I'm now close enough to 40 to give it a good smack on the ass, it is making me nervous.
In other news, did you know that none of you fabulous people took me up on the contest offer from last week? I know you can use some free art, right? Here are some things you can do with my photo if you win: give it as a gift, put it on your wall, use it to decoupage, have it turned into an awesome coffee mug/mouse pad/tee shirt, masturbate to it...wait, what? Who typed that? Wasn't me! I swear!
Anyway, be sure to enter by next Friday at 5 p.m. CST. Now, let's do some looking around the internet!
1) I love Louis C.K.
2) All you avid e-book readers should try Litfy for access to a lot of freebies.
3) I admit it: I am not a car girl. I just want something reasonably priced and reliable. But, if you are a car chick, look into VroomGirls.
4) Lit heads, design fans and foodies alike can get into this.
5) If you already like GiltGroup you'll likely enjoy their new fine dining site.
That's all for today. Get thee to something fun this weekend!

Tuesday Tipday: Birthdays, Finally Good For Something!

...
I've been indulging in freebies for months now via several websites and eclubs, but a post on one of my favorite freebie blogs has put my modest efforts to shame.
Hey, It's Free! shows a pretty comprehensive list of companies that hand out free stuff to eclub participants on their birthday (not to mention, throughout the year). I just spent about a half hour scanning the list and signing up for things. It's a good idea to get yourself an email address just for this type of thing, so you don't gunk up your professional email with coupons. Just remember to check it regularly!
My favorite offers so far? Look no further than Steak 'n' Shake, Red Robin and Noodles.
Isn't getting to eat good food for free lovely?

Valentine's Day Is For Shopping

Well, I hope everyone had a good (much warmer) weekend and a great Valentine's Day. HUBS and I spent Saturday with our parents to celebrate his 40th birthday. By the middle of last week HUBS was fine with the big day, but before that it was pretty clear he was having a time with the idea of turning 40.
HUBS and I both have that thing where we were good kids who did well in school, and it seemed like a given that we'd do amazing things with our careers. Instead, we've both had a lot of missteps and setbacks and neither of us is completely where we thought/hoped we'd be. I was worried that HUBS wouldn't be able to get beyond those feelings, and I'm really, really glad that he finally did.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY HUBS! I LOVE YOU!!

Valentine's Day was nice in what can only be described as the least romantic ways possible. HUBS and I ate lunch at a Mexican chain we love, Qdoba, because they were offering BOGO entrees when you kiss at the register. We had our good, cheap meal on an unseasonably warm day and then ran around to Walmart and various grocery stores to fully supply ourselves for the coming lean times.
Having full cabinets and a full fridge gives me (and most people, I'm sure) a sense of peace you cannot believe. It's more important than V Day gifts, but I did get HUBS a combo birthday/Valentine's gift of a new video game. Last night he brought me a large size of my favorite coffee and a pink rose. Good stuff.

Yeah, my rose is in a beer bottle. Deal with my non-traditionalism!
